Strengthen the Voice of Volunteer Firefighters Across NSW
The Volunteer Firefighters Association of NSW Inc (VFFA) has always stood for one fundamental principle: giving volunteer firefighters across New South Wales a strong, independent voice.
The VFFA is not a registered charity and is not a registered Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR). As a volunteer-based organisation, our future depends on the support and commitment of our members. The Executive are all volunteers who work for you without any income support, an honorarium is available each year if they so wish to claim and some sundry expenses such as fuel costs and accommodation may be reimbursed with receipts on official meetings.
Volunteers are the grassroots foundation of the VFFA. Without your support, we cannot continue to provide a strong and independent voice for volunteer firefighters into the future.
The VFFA advocates on behalf of its members to promote a safe, healthy and supportive environment for all volunteers who freely give their time, skills and effort to protect their communities.
The VFFA represents volunteers involved in firefighting and in protecting life, property and the environment across NSW.
Over the past 12 months, the VFFA has continued to raise matters of importance to volunteers directly with RFS Commissioner Trent Curtin, as well as with Members of Parliament, government representatives and other policy and decision-makers.
We have put the concerns of volunteers firmly on the table. We have raised issues surrounding the direction of the RFS, matters affecting volunteers and the need to ensure that the volunteer voice is heard when decisions are being made about the future of the Service.
A New $10 Annual Membership
The cost of operating an association and the workload involved in advocating for volunteers continue to increase. To help ensure the VFFA remains sustainable and effective, we are introducing a small annual membership fee of $10.
This decision has not been made lightly. It has been discussed and considered carefully, but we believe it is now both necessary and positive for the future of the Association. This was discussed at this year’s AGM where the consensus was for a membership fee to be implemented due to the magazine not being published since Covid.
For just $10 a year — less than the cost of two cups of coffee — you can become a financial member of the VFFA.
Your membership will help strengthen the Association and give you a greater sense of ownership in an organisation that continues to stand up for volunteer firefighters across NSW.
Why Membership Matters
A stronger membership base means the VFFA can have a stronger impact.
More members mean:
- A stronger collective voice when representing volunteers.
- Greater ability to advocate on issues affecting volunteer firefighters.
- Greater independence in pursuing matters of importance to members.
- More resources to investigate and pursue important issues.
- Greater member participation and ownership of the VFFA.
- A stronger organisation capable of representing volunteers into the future.
This Is About Your Voice
The introduction of a $10 membership fee is not about making money.
It is about making the volunteer voice stronger.
The VFFA exists to ensure that the views, concerns and interests of volunteer firefighters are heard. The more volunteers who stand together as members, the stronger that voice becomes.
If you believe volunteers across NSW deserve an organisation that is prepared to stand up, ask questions, challenge decisions and keep pushing for better outcomes, then we need your support.
For just $10, you can help make a difference.
THE VFFA NEEDS YOU.
NSW VOLUNTEERS NEED A STRONG VOICE.
JOIN. SUPPORT.
STRENGTHEN THE VFFA.
THE VFFA WILL NOT, NOR HAVE WE EVER ACTIVELY SOLICITED FUNDS FROM OUR MEMBERS OR THE GENERAL PUBLIC.
