Baulkham Hills state Liberal MP David Elliott goes from looking after one fire station to Emergency Services Minister

Before the NSW election, David Elliott would make sure he said g’day to all the emergency services workers in his electorate every Christmas Day by visiting the Baulkham Hills fire station.
Now the Baulkham Hills state Liberal MP is responsible for all emergency services in NSW after being announced as the new Emergency Services Minister today.
It’s a significant step up, but Mr Elliott is looking forward to steering the portfolio in the right direction.
“In my electorate, the only state-owned infrastructure at the moment is the (Baulkham Hills) fire station on Seven Hills Rd,” he said.
“I’m now in charge of both (fire stations and State Emergency Services) and I’m looking forward to working with my local emergency service workers so that I get a good understanding of the broader issues affecting the industry and the portfolio.
“It’s quite amusing that I’ve gone from worrying about one SES office and one fire brigade station and now I’m in charge of the whole portfolio.”
Mr Elliott was also appointed minister for corrective services and veteran affairs.
“This is a dream come through, particularly in a portfolio I’ve got a great deal of interest in,” he said.
“I’ve worked with volunteer emergency services organisations, I was a former Army officer and I’ve worked for the NSW Police so I’ve got a great deal of interest in combat agency and I’m delighted to pursue other reforms that are needed in the corrective services portfolio.”
