It is a fact that many of our volunteer firefighters are not okay, they are doing it tough. The reasons for this are many and varied. Some are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), many are being impacted by drought and other external factors.
With the numbers of active firefighters declining, additional pressures are being applied to those remaining.
The VFFA received a message from a volunteer who has stated that her husband is self employed and feels obligated to assist with the recent fires. They are required to cope with lost income because they are self employed. Click HERE to view the comment.
Did you know that there are a number of hospitals that have a dedicated service for emergency service workers?
Two examples are:
- South Coast Private Hospital – Click HERE to learn more, and
- St John of God Hospital – Click HERE for more information.
The NSW Government does not have a good track record in the way that they handle volunteers and staff who are suffering from PTSD, but you can help as a mate.
Call someone today and check on their welfare.
