I would like to add further fuel to the fire – January 1939, just days before Sydney sweltered in temperatures in the low 40s, 71 people died in firestorms in Victoria. These fires had been burning since December. This pattern of freak heatwaves following bad fires building into firestorms repeats itself over & over, but I am the only person with a PhD I know who talks about it. Could it be because I’m the only PhD, who being a whistleblower, can not get the bushfire service controlled funding I need to work in in my knowledge field, so un-fearful of losing my job, my home, nice holidays, a yacht, a late model car etc etc… I can speak out? The Victorian bushfires of 13 January 1939, known as Black Friday, were the culmination of several years’ drought in the state, following by high temperatures and strong winds. These conditions fanned several fires – some of which had been burning since early December – into a massive fire front.
